Gears: Basic Testing

Enable Docs to integrate with Google Gears
  1. Install and launch Google Chrome.
  2. Log in to Google Docs (http://docs.google.com).
  3. From the top-right corner, click Offline.
  4. Click Enable offline access.
  5. Check I trust this site... and click Allow in the Gears dialog.
  6. Check the Desktop shortcut option and click Yes.
  7. Wait for the download and synchronization to finish.
  8. Disable the network connection.
  9. Double click the Google Docs desktop shortcut to launch the offline version (you may need to sign in again with your Google Account).
  • Synchronization is successful after step 7.
  • Can access documents offline.

Edit/Delete/Rename any document offline and synchronize changes when online
  1. Install and launch Google Chrome.
  2. Log in to Google Docs (http://docs.google.com).
  3. From the top-right corner, click Offline.
  4. Click Enable offline access.
  5. Check I trust this site... and click Allow in the Gears dialog.
  6. Check the Desktop shortcut option and click Yes.
  7. Wait for the download and synchronization to finish.
  8. Disable the network connection.
  9. Double click the Google Docs desktop shortcut to launch the offline version (you may need to sign in again with your Google Account).
  10. Open any document.
  11. Make any change to the document and save.
  12. Enable your network connection.
  13. Click the gray offline icon next to your username to go online.
  14. Wait for the icon to change to a green 'checkmark' icon to indicate that synchronization is complete.
  15. Open the document you edited offline.
  • When you close the document and you return to your document listings, the document you edited must be tagged Edited offline.
  • Offline changes are synchronized with the online copy of the document.

Enable Reader to integrate with Google Gears
  1. Install and launch Google Chrome.
  2. Log in to http://reader.google.com.
  3. Select I trust this site. Allow it to use Google Gears.
  4. Click Allow.
  5. Wait for the download and synchronization to finish.
  • Synchronization is successful after step 5.
  • http://www.google.com will be added to the list of sites allowed under Google Chrome > Options > Under the hood > Change Google Gears Settings.

Enable Zoho to integrate with Gears
  1. Install and launch Google Chrome.
  2. Log in to http://writer.zoho.com.
  3. From the top-right corner, click Go Offline.
  4. Select I trust this site... and click Allow in the Google Gears Security Warning dialog.
  5. Wait for the download and synchronization to finish.
  • Synchronization is successful after step 5.
  • Documents are downloaded and can be accessed offline.
  • http://writer.zoho.com is added to the list of sites allowed under Google Chrome > Options > Under the hood > Change Google Gears Settings.

Edit Zoho doc offline and synchronize changes when online
  1. Install and launch Google Chrome.
  2. Log in to http://writer.zoho.com.
  3. From the top-right corner, click Go Offline.
  4. Check I trust this site... and click Allow in the Google Gears Security Warning dialog.
  5. Wait for the download and synchronization to finish.
  6. Open any document.
  7. Make any change to the document and save.
  8. Click Go online.
  9. In the synchronization dialog, click Synchronize.
  • The changes will be in sync with the online copy.

Google Chrome with Gears when installed and allowed in Incognito mode
  1. Install and launch Google Chrome.
  2. From Google Chrome's Page menu, select New incognito window.
  3. Log in to http://reader.google.com or any application that can be enabled with Gears.
  4. Select I trust this site. Allow it to use Google Gears from the Gears dialog box.
  5. Click Allow.
  • You will be redirected to http://reader.google.com.
  • Documents are downloaded and can be accessed offline.
  • http://www.google.com is added to the list of sites allowed under Google Chrome > Options > Under the hood > Change Google Gears Settings.

Create application shortcut from Gears dialog
  1. Install and launch Google Chrome.
  2. Visit Google Docs (http://docs.google.com) or Google Mail (http://mail.google.com).
  3. From the top-right corner, click Offline.
  4. For Google Docs, select Enable offline access. In Google Mail, click Next to install offline access.
  5. In the Google Gears dialog, select I trust this site. Allow it to use Google Gears.
  6. Click Allow.
  7. In the Create Shortcuts dialog, check all options (Desktop, Start menu, Quick launch bar).
  • Application can be accessed offline on successful download.
  • Application can be launched from the 3 shortcut locations.

Change Gears setting

Precondition : Google Chrome with Gears is installed and you have allowed or denied at least one Google application to be integrated with Gears

  1. Launch Google Chrome.
  2. From the Wrench menu, select Options > Change Google Gears Settings.
  3. Change the allow or deny setting for the application.
  • Verify that the changes have taken effect.
